FREE FIREFIGHTER PREPARATION SEMINARS!

You are invited to attend two FREE seminars to help you learn how to better prepare yourself to become a firefighter! The dates will be:

Thursday July 1, 2004: 6 pm to 8 pm

Topics being covered:
- Do I have what it takes to become a firefighter?
- The phases of the hiring process
- Locating Firefighter Examinations
- Becoming the best firefighter candidate you can be

Thursday July 8, 2004: 6 pm to 8 pm

Topics being covered:
- Resume preparation
- The application versus the resume
- Preparing for the oral interview

Location of both seminars will be Room 600 (in building 600) at Chabot College in Hayward. For directions, go to the main Chabot College website at http://www.chabotcollege.edu

The instructor of both seminars will be Steve Prziborowski, Fire Technology Coordinator at Chabot College and a Captain with the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

FIREFIGHTER TESTING OPPORTUNITY:

The semi-annual FIREHIRE firefighter testing process will be accepting applications for the positions of Firefighter, Firefighter/EMT, and Firefighter/Paramedic from March 1 through March 31, 2004. The only requirements to take this exam are to be at least 18 years of age and have either a G.E.D. or high school diploma, and have a current, valid California Drivers License! There are 22 different Bay Area fire departments participating in this recruitment! For more information, including how to obtain an application, CLICK HERE.

I've updated numerous LINKS that were broken. Please email me if you ever find a broken link or information that is not correct so that I may update it as soon as it is discovered. I want this site to be an awesome resource for you to utilize on a regular basis in your pursuit of becoming a firefighter or while completing fire related education and training.

I've also added links to all of the State University 4 year colleges since some of you are going to be pursuing a four-year degree at some point in your career.

Additionally, I took the time to upload many of the fire related articles that I have written for Firehouse magazine's website - Members Zone. All of these articles are related to becoming a firefighter. Some of the topics covered including resume preparation, better preparing yourself to become a firefighter, and tips to assist you with completing the application. All of these are located in the HIRING PROCESS section of this website.

BAY AREA / NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FIREFIGHTER TESTING OPPORTUNITY:

21 Bay Area / Northern California Fire Departments are participating in the bi-annual FIREHIRE testing process. To download an application packet, to find out more information (including which fire departments are participating), go to their website at http://www.firehire.com - this is an excellent opportunity to participate in a firefighter examination process, especially if you have never done so before. NOTE: You do not have to be an EMT, a paramedic, or have received your firefighter 1 certificate or firefighter 1 academy completion certificate to participate - which means virtually everyone should qualify to take the test. What are you waiting for? You'll never get a job if you don't step up to the plate and take your chances!

I have made additions & changes to various website pages. Some of the additions include:

- I have added (and corrected) many of the links (and bad links). Please, if you find a bad link on this website, email me at sprziborowski@chabotcollege.edu so that I can update it in a timely manner. I've had students tell me "that link has been bad for 6 months." Then why didn't they tell me? Remember - you can be part of the problem, or part of the solution!

- I have updated the EMT & Paramedic Information page to include Continuing Education providers for EMTs and Paramedics.

- I have added a list of Bay Area (and adjoining areas) Fire Departments that have volunteer or reserve firefighters to the Volunteer Opportunities page. Many students are looking to gain some experience as a volunteer or reserve firefighter, but do not know where to start or what departments have volunteer or reserve firefighters.

WELCOME BACK!

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused you by allowing the website to be out of service for the past month or so. Around June 1, the college switched computer servers. I screwed up by not backing up all of my website data (lesson to learn for all, including myself) and I ended up losing everything once the college switched servers. If I had backed up everything properly, I could have just transferred the old website information over to the new server. Instead, I had to spend countless hours redoing and updating everything as fast as I could so that I could keep all of you informed of what is going on with your Fire Technology program at Chabot. Thank you very much for your patience!
